The California Golden Bears are coming off a subpar season in 2023. They finished 6-6 overall and 4-5 in the conference. Things are looking up for the program after the announcement on Monday afternoon. The program landed former North Texas quarterback Chandler Rogers out of the transfer portal.

Rogers is a great get for the Golden Bears. He was ninth in the country in touchdown passes (29) and 14th in passing yards. He is a graduate transfer so he also brings an upperclassmen presence to the locker room. He had this to say in a statement about the decision.
“Cal has a really great team coming back. I have a great relationship with the current coaches there and they plan for me to succeed. They have a great tradition of players that have come through. If you look at their facilities they want for nothing which is huge. They are going to the ACC which is a great conference to play in, being able to play p5 will allow me to showcase myself as one of the best QBs in the nation. Then you talk about the location of Berkeley , it’s right next to San Francisco and Oakland. There are truly a lot of things to do out there.”
In a move that makes total sense geographically, the Golden Bears will move to the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2024. This puts some new opponents on the schedule. They play a non-conference game against Auburn the second week of the season and have a date with Florida State on the calendar. 2024 will be a very different year for college football as all the Pac-12 teams scatter to other conferences.
Can California compete in the ACC? Getting Rogers under center should give them a very productive offense which is a huge boost for the program.
